Cael, I cannot believe you are one month old already. Time is flying! We are trying to cherish every moment, capture it in our minds and on film, but there are so many! The past month has been filled with fabulous firsts. Your first bath, tummy time, bottle with daddy, Skype date with our family in Ohio, Ohio State v. Michigan football game...the list goes on. You make us smile every single day, without fail. Mommy is enjoying being home with you on maternity leave, and daddy will be joining us soon. We have bonded and learned your "Caelisms" that are adorable! I feel like we should thank you now for being a VERY good baby. You love everyone almost as much as everyone loves you! You love to go places with mommy and daddy. This month we also celebrated your first holiday, Thanksgiving! Grandma and Grandpa Gilbert came to town to meet you and your cousin Harper. You still like to nap in the sun almost every morning, and thankfully the Virginia weather has been cooperative. You like to be in your stroller and on car rides, since it usually puts you right to sleep. We are starting to see your eyes smile at us, and your quickly turn your head the moment you hear mommy or daddy in the other room. You certainly do not miss a meal, and mommy is very thankful for that! At one month, these are your stats:
Weight: 11 lbs, 3.5 oz (95th percentile!)
Size: Mostly 0-3 months. You grew out of your newborns within about ten days! You are still getting by with newborn diapers, but not too much longer.
Sleep: At least five hours through the night, sometimes more; very good naps during the day. Still sleeping in the bassinet beside the bed to make it easier to nurse at 4:00 a.m. The napping during the day is wherever you fall asleep...sometimes in the swing, sometimes face planting on your tummy time whale, and sometimes even in your crib.
Eating: Exclusively breastfeeding, usually every two hours or so. There are some days that you just can't get enough...the doctor calls those days "growing days". :) You make the cutest click noise with your tounge when you are ready to eat, and mommy can hear it from another room!!
Playing: You enjoy tummy time and time on your playmat on your back. You LOVE to be held, really by anyone. You do kick and bat at things in front of you. We try to read at least three stories a day, which you enjoy until it puts you to sleep. Bath time is especially fun because you kick to your little heart's content, and it relaxes you. We are still bathing you during the daytime since you started the fun spit up phase. Anything with music makes you happy, even if you are having a fit...which doesn't happen too often, thank goodness.
Milestones: You found your thumb and suck on it every now and then when you can't get to your pacifier. You can hold your head up pretty well when being held by mommy or daddy, and can turn it with incredible strength and ease.
"Caelisms": We found that you do not appreciate when mommy drinks coffee, or too much milk...which means no more ice cream cravings. When you are hungry, you will root on ANYTHING, even daddy's ear lobe. You are a "gourmet" eater, which is hilarious! After you are done, you love us to pat your lips dry and then you smack them in appreciation like what you just ate was so delicious! Daddy and I just laugh at your personality coming out because it is a very fun mixture of ours combined. Since birth, you have smiled when you sleep, sometimes frowned like you are having a nightmare, and almost every time you are in mommy's arms sleeping, you do a little chuckle laugh in y0ur sleep that is equally hilarious, cute and a little creepy. Mommy always calls you her little dinosaur, because the grunts and noises you make (even in your sleep) sound like we are in the middle of Jurassic Park! Auntie Michelle has coined your nickname that we call you fondly...."Guido Meatball"...because let's face it, you are quite the chunky hunk!
