Really can't believe we made it this far....one day before induction day, and still sitting at 4-5 centimeters dilated. Bring on Hurricane Sandy! Nothing, and I literally mean NOTHING will keep my family from making the trip...not a blizzard, and certainly not a hurricane. My parents got to the house late in the night...and my mom could NOT believe how huge I had gotten. She noticed that my belly had "dropped" and that the swelling had set in all over. My midwife warned me that the barometric pressure from the storm would likely push me into labor. Lucky for me, the storm came the day before I was scheduled to be induced (with her being the person on call), and a day after my parents arrived. I was ready to rock!
Still having contractions on and off, we called the doctor to make sure everything was still a go for tomorrow. They warned that the hospital was packed with people delivering, so unless I were to go naturally in the next twenty-four hours, it may be that my induction would get pushed out to another day. We later learned that there were 22 deliveries overnight during the hurricane. CRAZY! My midwife recommended that I try to get things moving "naturally"...by walking, or stretching. So where else to go in the middle of a hurricane?
The mall. :)
Too bad after driving there, it was closed and the parking lot was filled with power trucks from all different states. What people? It's not like there's a storm going on or anything...haha...I'm just trying to have a baby! So we decided to go to Applebee's for a quick lunch...they were also closing due to the storm. Strike two. Starving and still no baby, we called Tony's pizza and ended up there for dinner, and what was my last bit of food before fasting for the night in case I was able to still be induced.
The day brought on a few more contractions, but nothing else. I was tired and very "heavy" feeling. By the end of the night we got the call that everything was still a go for the morning. I headed to bed with a very anxious heart....and what little sleep I may have been able to sleep, went right out the window. I was wired! Laying awake with anticipation, nervousness, and overall excitement! I think that I would rather have had everything happen the natural way because knowing that it is scheduled is so nerve-racking for a type A like me.
