38w: False Alarm Numero 2

At our 38 week appointment, my blood pressure was high, and I was obviously very swollen...so my midwife was very worried that preclampsia might be an issue and the baby may need to come OUT!  I was still sitting pretty at 4cm dialated...and he was fully developed, so we left the appointment and headed for the hospital...but not without stopping first for Daniel to get some lunch at Potbelly's, since he figured it may be his last meal for awhile. :)

The contractions were just far enough apart, and the baby was not in distress.  So the midwife on call gave us the option to either stay and be induced, or go home and see what happens.  Meanwhile, my normal midwife scheduled me to be induced, no matter what, since I had been dialating and was effaced.  Induction day was set for October 30th...6 a.m.  We decided to keep him cooking, since he apparently wasn't ready yet.  This was a struggle to make such a decision.  I had selfish reasons for waiting...my family was scheduled to arrive the following week and I in no way wanted to be given any drugs to make the baby come out if it wasn't necessary because I believe that birth is a "natural" process and the body will do what it needs to do.  Daniel was ready to meet our son however, and was disappointed the entire rest of the day.  I had to hear about it, believe me!  I can totally understand though, getting our hopes up and anticipation ready two separate times...only to be sent home to wait it out.  Either way, my midwife determined that I could no longer work.  I was planning on working another week, but had to call the office to let them know it was almost baby time.

Luckily we didn't have to wait too much longer, because no matter what, we had an induction date, which was already six days prior to our due date, and just four short days away.
